Funding Boost For Young Mums

Over the ten years that it has been running Ballarat’s award-winning LinkUp Young Parents Program has helped more than 100 disadvantaged young mothers to complete their secondary education.

The LinkUp Young Parents Program also teaches valuable life skills and has helped many rebuild their lives, which were damaged by violence and drugs.

The LinkUp Young Parents Program is run by Yuille Park Community College and operates from a centre in Delacombe which functions as a learning and support hub for the program and a creche, and is a second home to many of the young mums.

In October 2015 Buninyong & District Community Bank® Branch supported the LinkUp Young Parents Program by agreeing to donate $15,000 over 5 years.

The co-ordinator of the program, Cr Peter Innes, said the donation would allow Ballarat Group Training to provide $40,000 worth of business and administration training courses to the young mums to run parallel with their VCAL studies.

Cr Innes said that the generosity of Buninyong & District Community Bank® Branch and Ballarat Group Training had touched the hearts of the young parents.  “It’s helped the girls realise that there are so many other people out there in the community that believe in them and what they can achieve” he said.  “They’re realising that they do have heaps of abilities and that they are employable”.
