Buninyong Police Station Restoration
The original Buninyong Police Station, built in 1859, is beautifully situated in the old legal precinct of Buninyong - north facing, it overlooks the historic Buninyong Botanical Gardens.
Until a Buninyong Primary School initiative commencing in 2014 led to its restoration, the old police station building had fallen into disrepair.
The refurbished building is now used by Buninyong Primary School for literacy and numeracy programs, music lessons and historical talks from local community members to students, and by the Friends of the Botanic Gardens as a clubhouse. It brings together three generations of Buninyong residents.
Buninyong & District Community Bank® Branch is proud to have provided enabling seed funding for the project.
Further funding was provided by Buninyong Primary School fundraisers, the Friends of the Buninyong Botanic Gardens and a City of Ballarat grant.
Buninyong & District Community Bank® Branch director Peter Mees said that restoration of the building was a “huge community effort” that also included work from parents, local businesses and the Buninyong Men’s Shed to get the building revitalised after years as a tool shed.
